Before you book

Nine questions to ask before you book an all-inclusive

The specific things that separate a great all-inclusive week from an expensive disappointment — and what the booking page won't tell you.

This one is still being written

The outline below is what it will cover. Rather than publish a generic article, Shanair writes these herself as the questions come up — so if this is what you need to know right now, just ask her directly.

What it will cover

  • Is the property currently undergoing renovation, and which buildings are affected?
  • What exactly does 'all-inclusive' cover here — premium spirits, à la carte dining, room service?
  • Do the à la carte restaurants require reservations, and how far ahead do they book out?
  • Which room categories have genuine sea views versus partial or angled views?
  • What is the beach actually like — sand quality, seaweed season, swimmable entry?
  • If adults-only: is the atmosphere quiet-and-restful or party-oriented?
  • What is included for children, and what are the kids' club age bands and hours?
  • Are transfers from the airport included, and how long is the drive?
  • What is the cancellation and change policy, and what does travel protection add?
